Happy Friday, everyone! Laura here, and Holly and I are gearing up for a weekend of absolutely nothing.
Time to relax, unwind, and refresh for the coming Monday. But we do have some interesting roundup items for you today.
Item One: Kaffeeklatsch Call!
We had our first ever call the other day for our Kaffeeklatsch membership program, and it was simply amazing. A relaxed, yet informative way for aspiring and pre-existing business owners alike to talk over a cup of virtual coffee. Lavonne Ellis was on our call today, as well as the Caffeinated Elf, and the Delight Specialist. We had so much fun that Holly and I are kicking around the idea of doing a live twitter chat one day for those who aren’t members. Stay tuned for that.
Item Two: Think before you speak
Scott Berkun (the guy who did the awesome one hour long video on calling BS on social media gurus) had a great post on taking time to answer your questions on his blog this week. This personally resonates with me because I’m a very quiet person. When asked a question, I don’t normally have a ready answer for them, and I like to mull over it a bit or not say anything until I have a decent response. A lot of times I thought this meant that I was slow or unprepared. And that’s not entirely true.
Item Three: WordPress Vs Thesis
So this is a bit of tech thrown in, but I think everyone who’s used WordPress and has thought of buying a premium theme should watch this debate (or more like a spitting contest). Since it seems like Matt Mullenweg is threatening to sue Chris Pearson and Thesis over its breach of WordPress’ GPL license that makes all derivative works created from WordPress free (I got this a bit wrong earlier and it seems you’re allowed to sell applications built off of WordPress, like Premium themes, but your purchasers should be allowed to distribute their copies. Kind of like when you own a CD, I guess? <--This is starting to get a bit complicated and it's making my head spin). Personally, I think both sides have their childish moments as well as their strong points, but this will definitely affect the WordPress community at large, and I'm a little sad at how hostile it's getting.
Here’s another article on WordPress vs Thesis. Also, you can probably follow the debate on twitter with the #thesiswp hashtag.
That’s all for now. Have a great weekend!
